November 9th 2019 Flash Clean

November 9th, 2019

MAD SEA - Beach Clean - Nov 9 2019

Yesterday was our 10th clean this year. Huge thank you goes out to the volunteers who came to help and picked up 8.5lbs of trash in about 40 minutes. In preparation for the winter, the city has now moved the logs from the beach to the edge of the grass so the foot traffic down there will be minimal until next spring.

Not sure if the weather will allow us to hold another flash clean before the end of 2019 so we'd like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who came out to help this year. We really couldn't do any of this without you guys so thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Keep checking the MAD Sea Instagram for updates. Wishing everyone a fantastic end of the year. Looking forward to starting a new decade with all of you. See you on the sand!

End of Summer 2019 Clean Done!

September 21st, 2019

MAD SEA - Beach Clean - Sept 21 2019

Mother nature was on our side as we set out to take on our biggest clean of the year.
We'd like to thank the eight wonderful souls who came out to help us make a difference. Together, we picked up over 27lbs of trash in almost three hours. As usual, cigarette butts were the main piece of trash picked up.

We had a bunch of leftover donuts after the clean so we brought them down to the Muslim Care Center in the downtown Eastside. These guys were giving out food to the homeless and distributed the donuts for us.

We've been able to pick up over 200lbs of trash this year and this couldn't have happened without the help of the numerous volunteers who came out to help. To all of you we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Also, huge thank you to Daily Hive Vancouver for helping us spread our message. We'll keep doing a few Flash Cleans as much as we can til the end of the year so keep checking our account if you'd like to come help.
See you on the sand!

End of Summer 2019 Clean!

September 20th, 2019

MAD SEA - Beach Clean - Sept 20 2019

Well we were hoping for an extra long summer but it seems like mother nature has other plans for us this year. Nonetheless we want to end our summer with a weekend clean.
Tomorrow (Saturday September 21st) we will be meeting up at the Second Beach parking lot for 10AM where coffee and donuts will be available for volunteers. Please RSVP on the Facebook event page so we know how many people to prepare for with coffee and donuts.
We will then head out to clean Second Beach, English Bay Beach and Sunset Beach.
Everyone is welcome. We will have gloves and bags but feel free to bring your own. Event is happening rain or shine.
See you on the sand!

September 12 2019 Flash Clean

September 12th, 2019

MAD SEA - Beach Clean - Sept 12 2019

No rain was going to stop us as we set out to complete our seventh flash clean of the summer.
Our friends Luc and Hiroko came out to help us this time. Thanks so much for your help guys, we really appreciate it! Together we picked up over 22lbs of trash in about an hour. This time however, we found SO many cigarette butts it's actually ridiculous how many we found.
We get it, some people like to smoke. However, not only is it illegal to smoke on the beach but there's also garbage cans everywhere down there so there's absolutely no excuse to be, as the great John Joseph says, an inconsiderate mamaluke.
Pack in, pack out. No excuses.

MAD SEA - Beach Clean - Aug 14 2019

Another one!
10lbs added to the year's total. Thanks again to our amazing friends who consistently come out and help us. Love you guys

August 7 2019 Flash Clean

August 7th, 2019

MAD SEA - Beach Clean - Aug 7 2019

The sun was shining on as we held our fourth clean of the summer. Together, we were able to pick up 21lbs of trash from the beach at English Bay. Thanks again to all the wonderful volunteers who took time out of their day to help clean up one of our beautiful beaches.
Next flash clean will be Wednesday, August 14th.
See you on the sand!

August 1 2019 Flash Clean

August 1st, 2019

MAD SEA - Beach Clean - Aug 1 2019

Rain on the horizon didn't scare the MAD team as they descended on English Bay to pick up trash leftover from the fireworks the night before.

Almost 14lbs of trash were picked up in just over an hour and as usual, cigarette butts were the most commonly picked up waste. With all the trash bins available at the beach, there is NO reason for anyone to leave anything behind. Please don't be an asshole and pick up after yourself. We only have one planet. Pack in, pack out.

July 18 2019 Flash Clean

July 18th, 2019

MAD SEA - Beach Clean - July 18 2019

Summer and sun is here and that means trash is starting to pile up on our beaches. 4 people collected 21lbs of trash in under an hour at English Bay. Please do your part and make sure to throw your garbage and recyclables away, that includes cigarette butts! Thanks to our volunteers for taking time to come help out. See you next time!

June 25 2019 Flash Clean

June 25th, 2019

MAD SEA - Beach Clean - June 25 2019

Our first flash clean of the year was awesome! The MAD crew teamed up with @greenlfe and @livebeautifullyyoga. Along with some friends, we picked up over 11lbs of trash in just over an hour. Thanks SO much for your help guys!

First Clean of 2019!

March 9th, 2019

MAD SEA - Beach Clean - March 9 2019

The sun was out in full force as we headed out to our first clean of the year. Our good friend @lloydfromcanada told us about this place on the water in Richmond with TONS of trash.

This spot was filled with trash, it was really disconcerting to see how much litter is left there. We made a small dent in the trash pile but still managed to pick up 94lbs of trash in just over thirty minutes.

The sad part in all of this is that we wouldn't even have had to go there in the first place if people took their trash with them when they go out to this spot.

We ALL have to make a conscious effort in order to clean up the environment or the state in which we leave our planet to future generations will be a scary one indeed.

Please give us a follow and keep checking our posts if you'd like to participate in one of our cleans.
Every little bit makes a difference.

Over 300lbs Cleaned in 2018!

December 31st, 2018

MAD SEA - Beach Clean - December 31 2018

We cut it close but we did it!

Matt went out to English Bay yesterday and picked up 4.4 pounds of trash and I went today and picked up 4.1 pounds giving us a total of 305 pounds collected in 2018!

Thank you to all our wonderful sponsors, amazing volunteers and everyone who's reposted or talked about our project. Biggest thanks of all to Matt Bone, I could never pull this project off alone. You're an amazing partner in this adventure and one of the best friends anyone could ask for.

Happy New Year from us at the MAD Sea Conservation Society. Wishing you and yours a healthy and prosperous 2019.

See you on the sand! 🤙❤️

November 10 2018 Flash Clean

November 10, 2018

MAD SEA - Beach Clean - November 10 2018

The sun gods were smiling upon us as we took part in our 9th clean for 2018. Thank you again to the wonderful people who came out and helped us collect over 15 pounds of trash in less than an hour!

TONS of cigarette butts again. If you're gonna smoke, don't be a jerk and throw your cigarette butts in a trash bin or ashtray after putting it out. Please!

Matt and I are going to switch things up and find a different waterway to clean before the end of the year to get us the few pounds left to get us over the 300 pound mark. Stay tuned...

We'd like to give a special mention and thank you to a member of our family who showed us the most love this year. Daphne Steensma came out to a whopping seven beach cleans including our two biggest cleans! Thank you SO much for all your hard work Daphne, you are a fantastic example to follow on how to make a difference! <3

End of Summer 2018 Clean

Sept 15, 2018

MAD SEA - Beach Clean - September 5, 2018

Our end of summer beach clean was definitely one for the books. Even though the rain had its own plans, that wasn't going to stop seventeen wonderful volunteers from coming out and helping us make a difference.

Cartems Donuts and Stance Socks got the day started off on the right foot with coffee, donuts and socks for everyone pre-clean. Spirits were high as we proceeded to clean up Third Beach, Second Beach, English Bay Beach and Sunset Beach.

An amazing lunch by Chickpea and Juice Truck was waiting for us by the time we got to Sunset Beach. That's when the rain stopped and the sun decided to make an appearance. It really was a perfect way to end the clean.

Once we got done with lunch it was time for our raffle. Everyone who came out was able to get a prize and once again, we'd like to thank our sponsors for their generous offerings (Native Shoes, Stance Socks, Layback, VSSL, Cartems Donuts, Chickpea, Juice Truck, Bandidas Taqueria and Malissa from Style Lab on Beatty).

Thanks to everyone who came out, we were able to pick up 80lbs of trash!!!

This year has truly been amazing and has proven to us that there are many people out there who are ready to make a difference. We can't thank our sponsors and volunteers enough for everything they've done. Without you we're simply two guys cleaning up beaches and trying to make this world a better place. We really do rely on you guys for helping us and spreading the word so thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.

Please keep following our Instagram for updates as we might do a few more Flash Cleans before the end of the year and also check our website for all the pictures from our events throughout the year.

See you on the sand! <3

MAD X SAXX X Boardroom X Chickpea Flash Clean

Sept 5, 2018

MAD SEA - Beach Clean - September 5, 2018

The fifth edition of our Flash Cleans was definitely one for the books as we had our biggest turnout ever!

Thank you SO much to all the volunteers who came out and to our wonderful sponsors (Saxx, The Boardroom and Chickpea) who helped make it a great time for everyone. The thirty-two people who came out yesterday collectively picked up over 23 pounds of trash in under an hour!

It takes Matt and I about two solid hours to cover English Bay and we can only pick up about half of that. It really goes to show how much of a difference it makes when a large group of people get together to work on a project like this.

Once again we'd like to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for coming out and helping us make a difference.

Stay tuned for our big end of the summer clean coming up on Saturday, September 15th!

Fourth Summer 2018 Flash Clean

August 22, 2018

MAD SEA - Beach Clean - August 22 2018

Even the world's worst air quality couldn't stop the MAD team from Making A Difference for their fourth Flash Clean of the summer. The quality of the air in BC is really bad right now and these fires are a direct result of climate change. We need to address this issue before this becomes the new norm in the Pacific Northwest.

We were super stoked to meet two new volunteers who came and helped us clean over ten pounds of trash in about an hour and a half. Thanks again for helping us make a difference Travis and Kyla!<3

Third Summer 2018 Flash Clean

August 2, 2018

MAD SEA - Beach Clean - August 2 2018

Our third Flash Clean was a total success! We were able to pick up over 26 pounds of trash including hundreds of cigarette butts.

A huge thank you goes out to all the amazing people who came out and lent a helping hand. So stoked to see various generations of people coming together to make a difference. We love you guys beyond words.

Second Summer 2018 Flash Clean

July 12, 2018

MAD SEA - Beach Clean - July 12 2018

Another flash clean is in the books! 12 pounds of trash collected from English Bay in Vancouver.
Check out all those cigarrete butts!

Summer Kickoff Flash Clean

June 21, 2018

MAD SEA - Beach Clean - June 21 2018

Our first flash clean was a success! We had six volunteers come out and together we picked up over nineteen pounds of trash! HUGE thank you goes out to the angels who came out to help. We are so grateful for you and love you more than words could ever describe!

First Beach Clean

May 26, 2018

MAD SEA - Beach Clean - May 26, 2018

The Native Shoes X M.A.D. Sea Conservation Society beach clean was a huge success, we picked up 101.5 pounds of trash over almost five hours. Not bad for our first clean.

We'd like to thank Native Shoes and Fbomb Trading for allowing us to make this clean happen. Your shoes allowed us to pick up trash in total comfort and style.

Another huge thank you goes out to all our sponsors and their generous donations. Eternal Abundance started our day off with some fresh fruit. Chickpea set the volunteers up with a spread fit for kings and queens post-clean. Nice Shoes on Fraser Street set us up with discount cards for their awesome vegan store (they have a great selection of Native Shoes btw). Turf gave each volunteer a free class of their choice and three lucky volunteers won a $15 gift card provided by Bandidas Taqueria.

We cannot express how grateful we are for everyone mentioned above but especially to the volunteers who took time out of their weekends to come out and make a difference. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for helping us realize this project. Stay tuned for the next clean!
